Launch of ‘Forged in Sheffield, Shaping the Future’: A landmark moment in Sheffield’s history
As a proud member of the Sheffield community, you know the remarkable spirit that defines our University. At the turn of the 20th Century, the people of Sheffield helped seal the University charter and 120 years on, the kindness and compassion of our community remains as significant to us today as it was back then.
Last year, thanks to support from across our community, the University successfully launched its first ever major fundraising and engagement campaign, Forged in Sheffield, Shaping the Future. A campaign that will celebrate and continue this culture of giving to shape a better world.
Forged in Sheffield, Shaping the Future will:
- accelerate progress in world-leading research excellence
- provide direct and urgent financial support to students in need
- draw upon the incredible talent of alumni to guide the next generation
- nurture projects driving regional growth and helping local communities
Professor Koen Lamberts, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, said “We are facing an uncertain time across the sector currently, but with the backing of our incredible community and your ongoing commitment to our vision of a better tomorrow, this philanthropic campaign has the very best foundations to make an even bigger difference going forwards.
“This campaign will see more students granted scholarships than ever before. It will deliver advancements in the understanding of devastating diseases. And shine a light on projects where we’re working closely with the City Region, such as support for a number of exciting spin-outs and start-ups that ensure technologies developed by Sheffield researchers attract investment and stay in the city.”
